Werder are extending the contract of goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka. The shot-stopper has had a successful campaign and played a vital role in getting Werder back into the topflight. Clemens Fritz and Frank Baumann were eager to keep the Czech Republic international on board.
“Pavlas has showed in the last few years that he can play at the top level. On top on that, he has a real connection with the club and with the city. He was with us when we were relegated to the second division but he has played his part in getting us back into the topflight. We are delighted that we can continue our journey together,” said Clemens Fritz, Werder’s head of professional football, who is delighted that the 30-year-old has extended his contract.
Jiri Pavlenka is also optimistic about his future at the club: “I am delighted that my future lies with Werder. My family and I feel really at home in Bremen and it was a really easy decision for me to make. I am over the moon that we secured promotion back to the Bundesliga and I am looking forward to taking on the challenges that lie ahead.”
Jiri Pavlenka signed for Werder from Slavia Prague in 2017. He has played 135 times for the club in the Bundeliga and featured 23 times this season in the second tier.
