WERDER.DE summarises the match reaction of head coach Markus Anfang, Manuel Mbom and Niclas Füllkrug.
Markus Anfang: “I think it was a very intensive game, and a good watch for the fans. We had two glorious chances in the first half which we should have converted, but you could see in the second half the Pauli had set up differently, they brought Makienok on and so they could play plenty of long balls. We took the lead and I think if we had managed two or three situations better, then we could have won the game.”
Manuel Mbom: “We certainly brought the fight today. We got a hard-earned point and we even had a chance to win it at the end. We’ll certainly take a positive point against the current league leaders.”
Markus Anfang: “Of course, I hoped we would have taken one of our chances in the first half. I think we did well to create the chances and we should have made more of them, but overall, they both did very well up top.”
Manuel Mbom: “We were trying to pick out both of them today. It never does any harm to play with two goal-hungry strikers up top, and they complement each other well. We played lots of balls into Fülle and Duckschi which they then laid off to the midfielders, and that was a really useful thing for us.”
Niclas Füllkrug: “It’s always nice to know that you’ve got someone up there supporting you. We’ve often played together once I had been subbed on, so it wasn’t anything new to us. But when you know you’re not on your own up there, you know that when the ball gets played up to you or when you’re on the counter attack, your partner is somewhere by your side and I think that was very helpful and if we had just played it a bit better, we would have had more opportunities.”
Niclas Füllkrug: “Duckschi has a really good sense of whether he’s offside or not. We searched for each other on many occasions. In the first half, you could see to some extent just how well we work together, and in the second half it led to the goal and I was really pleased about that, mainly because we were able to combine well. It’s always nice as a striker to have a partner and so I hope we get that opportunity again.
