It’s hard to imagine a Werder Bremen without Marvin Ducksch. The number seven has been a key player for Werder since he joined the club. On his arrival, Ducksch promised he would score 15 goals and he has already passed this mark. He scored his 18th and 19th goals of the season in the 4-1 win over Schalke- a personal best.
Ducksch put Werder 4-0 up against Schalke with goals in the 51st and 53rd minutes. The striker is enjoying his most prolific season and greatly appreciates the support from his teammates: “My teammates are what make things so great here. I decided to join Werder because I knew of the quality they had in their ranks,” said the 28-year-old. The feel good factor and team spirit at the club are also very important for Ducksch: “I’m really happy here. It’s an important factor in being able to perform,” he explained.
The statistics show why the striker has been so prolific this season. Ducksch has had the most shots on goal of any player in the 2. Bundesliga and on a more sour note, has hit the woodwork more than any other player (8 times). He even hit the post twice in the top of the table clash against Schalke last time out.
It wasn’t just at the top pitch that he made an impact on Saturday. He showed the desire to track back and defend his goal when Schalke’s Simon Terodde was one-on-one with Jiri Pavlenka. The striker managed to put pressure on Terodde from behind to keep the score at 1-0. He was rewarded for his outstanding work ethic at the weekend and was named Kicker’s player of the matchday 31.
