SV Werder have a full squad on the training pitch at the wohninvest WESERSTADION. Despite that, head coach Markus Anfang will only decide whether everyone is available for selection for the away game in Nürnberg after training on Thursday. The doubts for the game are Felix Agu, Marvin Ducksch, Ömer Toprak, Leonardo Bittencourt and Christian Groß.

Felix Agu has been struggling with a calf problem since the home game against St. Pauli and has not taken part in training as a result. “His calf keeps flaring up – he’s had this problem before. Back then, he took part in training but got injured,” said Anfang, explaining the precautions he is taking with the full-back. SVW’s head coach spoke cautiously regarding Agu’s potential appearance: “Even if he trains tomorrow, he won’t have trained for a large part of the week.”

Will Toprak return to the squad for the first time in two months?

After two days training individually, Marvin Ducksch returned to full training with the team on Wednesday. “We’re not sure if he’ll be able to be fully involved tomorrow,” said Anfang on the striker, who is dealing with a thigh issue.

Also back in the squad are Leo Bittencourt, who missed out against St. Pauli with an illness, Ömer Toprak and Christian Groß. Whilst Groß made his return to the pitch with a short cameo on Saturday, Werder captain Toprak has been out since the middle of September. On his potential return, Anfangs said “We need to judge whether it makes sense for us to take Ömer with us. He’s definitely not going to be able to start.”
