Fabio Chiarodia will be wearing the green and white of SV Werder Bremen for the next several years. The 16-year-old defensive talent has this week signed a long-term contract, his first as a professional player.
“Fabio is one of the most talented players in his age group in Europe and is being watched by many of the top clubs around the continent. That means it’s all the more exciting for me to say that he wants to develop his game with us at Werder. He’s very talented on the ball, strong, and mentally aware for his age. Despite only being 16, we trust him to be able to adapt to professional football very quickly,” explained Frank Baumann, director of football for Werder, underlining that this contract extension is yet more evidence of the brilliant work done with the youth setup in the WERDER Performance Centre.
Chiarodia, who will continue to build up his game time in the U19s, will also become a more integrated part of the first team following this contract. He is looking forward to his future in Bremen: “Werder has become a second home for me. I’ve felt good here from the moment I arrived and this club were always going to be my first point of contact when any questions were asked about my future. The step up to the full professional team is a big challenge for me, and I have a lot of respect for it. At the same time, I’m looking forward to everything ahead of me.”
The defender with Italian heritage moved from VfL Oldenburg to Werder in 2014 and has come up through the various youth teams of the WERDER Performance Centre. He played in every league game for Werder’s U19 squad last season, and has made five appearances for the Italy U17s, scoring once.
