Bittencourt out for several weeks with knee injury

In the second friendly against Feyenoord on Saturday, Leonardo Bittencourt suffered a knee injury. The attacking midfielder had to be substituted in the 72nd minute of Werder’s final friendly ahead of the start of the league season.

An MRI examination provided come more clarity on the injury, revealing that Bittencourt had suffered a partial rupture to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) of his right knee and will therefore miss several weeks. As a result, the 27-year-old will be ruled out of at least the season opener.
