Werder Bremen management have been in detailed discussions with the Kosovan and Dutch national football associations this weekend. The issue at hand was the availability of Milot Rashica and Tahith Chong as Werder did not want the players to travel to areas considered to be high-risk. The players would have had to quarantine for five days upon returning, even in the case of a negative Covid-19 test, as mandated by the Bremen department for public health. This would mean that the players could be unavailable for the start of competitive action in the DFB-Pokal against Carl-Zeiss Jena.

“We have now reached a compromise with the national associations. Both players will travel only to matches that do not take place in high-risk areas. That means that they will not have to quarantine afterwards and will therefore be available to us immediately,” said sporting director Frank Baumann.

Milot Rashica will travel to the Italian city of Parma this week, where he will represent Kosovo in their match against Moldova on Thursday (3rd September). He will then miss the home match against Greece in Pristina. Tahith Chong will most likely appear in this weekend’s friendly match against Hannover 96 before travelling to the Netherlands, where he will play an U21 match against Norway on Tuesday (8th August).
