Marco Friedl is available again for SV Werder Bremen for the game against Union Berlin on Saturday, 2nd January (15:30 CET). The centre-back returned to team training on Thursday ahead of the opening game in 2021. “Marco Friedl will be able to play. All of the other players who had a knock for the Hannover game are fit and available too,” said Florian Kohfeldt.

The head coach was referring to Ömer Toprak, Leonardo Bittencourt and Kevin Möhwald, while striker Davie Selke could also feature. “He has trained the whole week, will be in the squad and could even play for most of the game,” commented Kohfeldt.

A decision on Niclas Füllkrug will be made after the final training session. “We will have to see if Niclas can make the squad or if he needs a full week of training before the next game,” said Kohfeldt. Milot Rashica is still out, but could be back for the Augsburg game.

Werder do have one new absentee though: “Unfortunately, Nick Woltemade has a virus, which definitely isn’t corona, but he will be out for an indefinite period.”
