Ludwig Augustinsson helped Sweden overcome Kosovo and Milot Rashica on Sunday evening with the first goal in the eventual 3-0 victory. The 26-year-old opened the scoring in the 12th minute following a good assist from Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the Swedes made it two victories from two in World Cup qualifying. The Werder left-back was substituted after 83 minutes, with his native Sweden going top of Group B ahead of Spain who sit in second.

It was not as successful an evening for Augustinsson’s Werder teammate Milot Rashica, who played 71 minutes of the defeat. Next up for Kosovo is Spain on Wednesday (20:45 CEST), while Augustinsson concludes the international break with a friendly against Estonia on the same day (17:45 CEST).

Schmid with four assists in friendly

It was a match to remember for Romano Schmid, who was on international duty with Austria U21s on Saturday. The midfielder provided four assists in the Austrian youngsters’ resounding 10-0 win against Saudi Arabia, while also contributing to two other goals in the game. “I’ve never experienced a game like that at this level before. We showed what we’re capable of and now we have to keep building on this,” Schmid told oefb.at after the final whistle. Austria U21s are back in action again on Monday at 15:00 CEST as they face Poland.

Meanwhile for Austria’s senior side, Marco Friedl was an unused substitute in the 3-1 win over the Faroe Islands in World Cup qualifying. Josh Sargent was also on the bench for the USA as they beat Northern Ireland 2-1 in a friendly. Sargent will now return to Bremen, but Friedl will remain on international duty for Austria’s final qualifier of the international break against Denmark on Wednesday (20:45 CEST).
