SV Werder Bremen’s annual general assembly, initially planned to take place on 16th November 2020, has been postponed until spring 2021. On Friday afternoon, the club’s presidential board received news that their special occasion permit had been turned down by the city’s health authority.
President Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald said, “The news comes as no surprise to us, based on the recent developments over the last few days. We will postpone the event. The statutes of our club allow that all the committees will be able to continue their work until the rescheduled date." The upcoming general assembly will see members elect new supervisory and honorary board members.
The presidential board has decided to not host the meeting virtually. “We considered this option, but decided that it wouldn’t be the right decision considering the votes that need to take place,” said Dr. Hess-Grunewald.
Werder Bremen are not the only Bundesliga club to have reached this decision. Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, 1.FC Köln and VfB Stuttgart have all also postponed their general assembly’s due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
