Felix Agu has had a lot of new experiences this week. A first professional transfer, moving out of his parents’ house and moving to a new city are just some of the things on the new Werder signing’s plate.
“Intense” is the word that the full back used to describe it all. Just under a week ago, Agu trained with his new team for the first time and felt well-accepted in the group. “The guys made my arrival easy,” said the U21 international, who joined the club from VfL Osnabrück, the club where he grew up and began his footballing journey. Agu played spent 10 years at the Bremer Brücke, advancing through the youth ranks and achieving promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with the first-team squad in 2019. The full back made 28 appearances last season.
Agu wants to continue this development at Werder. “I’m here to give it my all and carry on growing as a player. I think this is the right place to do that,” said Werder’s new number 17, who describes himself as “an attack-minded full back who likes to use his pace” and is comfortable at either side. Agu is aware of the difference between the first and second divisions. “It’s a big step.” However, sporting director Frank Baumann believes the 20 year old is capable: “I am sure that he will be able to take the next step quickly and will be an exciting and important player for us in the future.”
