Young goalkeeper Eduardo dos Santos Haesler has today had his contract with SV Werder Bremen upgraded into a fully licensed professional player contract. The upgrade comes as the 21-year-old has firmly established himself as the third-choice goalkeeper in head coach Florian Kohfeldt’s team following his contract extension last year with the Green-Whites. This was announced by Werder’s sporting director Frank Baumann on Wednesday at a midweek press conference.

For Kohfeldt, the move comes as the logical next step in continuing the youngster’s development. “Dudu has been here at the club since 2018 and has been continually improving since then. He’s a goalkeeper who is always looking to develop his game and has shown himself to be capable and calm in goal, especially during the friendlies he’s featured in.”

Goalkeeping coach Christian Vander also sees a lot of positive signs in the young German. “Eduardo fully deserves to be third-choice at this stage; his performances both in training and in U23 games have proved that. His progress over the last year especially has demonstrated the potential he has, and he’s making a lot of steps in the right direction.”

For Eduardo dos Santos Haesler, too, the contract upgrade has a special significance. “I’ve been in Bremen for two years now and looking back, I can say that this has been the right place for me from the beginning. Werder is a huge club and they’ve been great to me and always valued me as a player. This move is just further confirmation of that and it’s massively important for my further development as a footballer.”

Dos Santos Haesler arrived at Werder Bremen during the 2018/19 season from MSV Duisburg U19s and quickly established himself within the Green-Whites U23s. So far he has played 28 games for Werder in the Regionalliga Nord.
