SV Werder Bremen will, along with every other Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga team, complete a two-week quarantine training camp. On Thursday, the DFL issued a quarantine order for all 36 professional football clubs in the top two divisions from 12 May until the end of the season. "We see this as a very sensible and understandable decision. The priority is finishing the season in time," said Frank Baumann, SV Werder Bremen’s sporting director.

Given the continuously high infection rate and the significantly more contagious British mutation, which is leading to several cancellations due to cases within teams such as Hertha BSC, Werder’s DFB-Pokal opponents Jahn Regensburg and several more second-tier sides, this quarantine training camp is "the right way of ensuring these last few games go ahead," said Baumann. On Monday, 3 May 2021, the teams will enter a “quasi quarantine” whereby the players must stay solely in their home environment or on the training premises.

After constructive talks between the DFL and DFB’s Medical Task Force and the league representatives, a "mutually beneficial solution" was found, according to Baumann. The sporting director underlined: "We had a hotel quarantine training camp last year and we all know what it’s like from our regular preseason camps. The players are entirely understanding – they’ve been disciplined by following the requirements all season. This measure is also being fully accepted by the team.
