For the eighth time in a row, SV Werder Bremen have traveled to Austrian Zillertal. Florian Kohfeldt’s men will spend ten days in the middle of the Alps in Tyrol until Sunday (14/07) as they continue their pre-season preparations. Jiri Pavlenka, Claudio Pizarro and Marco Friedl will also join up with the squad.

Over the past few days, the focus has been on athleticism and fitness, but that is set to change. “It will be more about football,” announced Florian Kohfeldt ahead of the trip. Additionally, the team have two friendlies in store over the next ten days as they face recently-promoted Austrian side WSG Swarovski Tirol as well as second-division side Karlsruher SC, with the two games forming a small tournament. At the end of the camp, Werder will face SV Darmstadt 98.

In addition to the injured Philipp Bergfrede, Sebastian Langkamp and Milos Veljkovic, the Eggestein brothers and Marco Friedl are also not currently in Zillertal, with Friedl set to link up with the squad on Monday. Therefore, head coach Florian Kohfeldt called up several players from the U23 squad to travel to Zillertal: Christian Groß, Simon Straudi, Marin Pusic, Julian Rickmann and Niklas Wiemann will join Benjamin Goller, Ilia Gruev and David Philipp, who had already been training with the first team since the start of pre season.
