SV Werder Bremen are preparing for the possible restart of the Bundesliga season with support from experts in the field of sports psychology and mental coaching, to help them in the final weeks of the season during these times of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Sports psychologist Kleine-Möllhoff has already been supporting Florian Kohfeldt’s team. He has been working in the Werder performance centre since May 2019 and already has prior Bundesliga experience, having previously worked for 1. FSV Mainz 05. He also has experience working for Eintracht Braunschweig and FC Carl-Zeiss Jena since 2010.

“Mathias has done such a good job in our performance centre that we have decided that he should support the team with sports psychology in training and before matches. Particularly in the difficult situation we currently find ourselves in, which is very stressful for everyone, including the players, he has a very important role to play. Furthermore it’s also important to have another go-to person within the team in this precarious sporting situation,” explains Sporting Director, Frank Baumann.

Additionally, well-known personality and mental coach Jörg Löhr will also work together with the team once the season restarts. The former Handball international has enjoyed successful spells working with teams in the past, including the national Handball team at the 2007 World Cup. He also knows the club very well, having previously spent a successful spell working for the Green Whites back in 2011, in an equally difficult situation.

“Jörg is a recognised mental and motivating coach, who we hope will give us a competitive boost. We’re certain that their involvement, in cooperation with the coaching staff, sets us up well to master the challenges ahead of us,” said Baumann.
