Werder and SV Darmstadt 98 drew 1-1 in the Green-Whites’ final friendly of their Zillertal training camp, with substitute Benjamin Goller scoring Werder’s equaliser after Darmstadt initially took the lead. The game was split into three 30 minute halves, and from the outset it was clear that the intense work already done at the camp was taking its toll on the Werder players. Nonetheless, as the game progressed, Nuri Sahin and co. found their feet and created some good chances while exhibiting some promising build-up play. However, it was Darmstadt who scored the first goal of the game, when Patrick Herrmann fired home. A deserved equaliser finally came in the 77th minute when Benjamin Goller rifled a fizzling shot in from distance. Werder continued to push for a winner but were kept out by The Lilies’ custodian Marcel Schuhen, ever-vigilant in the Darmstadt net. The game finished 1-1, providing coach Florian Kohfeldt a useful yardstick for Werder’s pre-season progress.
