The head coach is also showing signs of optimism in regards to Maximilian Eggestein, who missed out on the game against Union Berlin with a back injury: “If Maxi copes well with the workload over the next few days and manages to take part in full training, then he is also a potential option for the weekend.”
Yuya Osako, on the other hand, will be sidelined for an extended period of time. The Japan international pulled out of training due to a thigh injury, and is therefore expected to be out for up to six weeks. “He simply twisted it. He went to move towards the ball and he felt something in an area that hasn’t caused him any problems in the past. It had nothing to do with the intensity of the training session,” explains the head coach.
Niklas Moisander, who still needs to undergo further examinations, will also both be unavailable for the game, as will Ömer Toprak. Nuri Sahin is suspended after picking up two yellow cards in the game against Union Berlin.
