Martin Harnik has left Werder Bremen to sign for second-tier side Hamburger SV on loan until the end of the season. Werder sporting director Frank Baumann announced the transfer news on Monday.
“We have found a perfect for solution for Hanno and for HSV. He will get more minutes and opportunites at Hamburg than he will here due to the competition for places up front. We would like to thank Hanno for his efforts at the club,” explained Baumann.
“Hanno was very important for us last year and played a key role in a number of games. He has given his all this season and behaved extremely professionally. He accepted his role in the squad which I’d like to thank him for,” said head coach Florian Kohfeldt.
Martin Harnik returned to Werder from Hannover 96 in summer 2018. The 32-year-old made 22 competitive appearances for Werder last season, scoring seven goals and registering four assists. He appeared twice this season for SVW.
