At home on the coach with the family, rather than under the lights at the wohninvest WESERSTADION. That’s how Fin Bartels has been spending the past few weeks. “These kinds of matches are normally the highlight of the season, but the Bundesliga is very far away at the moment. It’s surreal, but we have to be aware of the dangers,” said the 33-year-old in regards to the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, which was originally scheduled to take place last weekend.
The Coronavirus has of course completely changed the winger’s everyday life, “I’m now working as a teacher; we play sports together in front of the TV, organise mini discos or even family dinners. There are ways of passing the time,” reports the father of three, who is staying at home in support of the #STAYATHOME kit campaign, which has already raised more than 20,000 Euros.
Bartels is also aware that at some point we will have to take a step back towards normality. However, the time for this is still yet to come, “We can only do what we can: stay at home, look after those around us and follow the rules. It’s about protecting everyone’s health. It’s important to make the best out of the situation for however long it lasts and use the time you have with your family.” With three children to look after, there is no danger of boredom for Bartels, “I’m a very busy man,” the attacker said with a smile.
Bartels reveals that the current situation has also impacted his hairstyle, “I had to cut my hair myself because of the quarantine. Unfortunately it didn’t go as planned so I had to shave the whole thing as you can see.”
