Ludwig Augustinsson was merely a spectator in the stands once more as SV Werder Bremen secured a 4-0 friendly victory against Spanish side SD Eibar on Sunday in Grassau. Following his medical examiniation, the Swede is back in Grassau with the rest of the Werder squad. Head coach Florian Kohfeldt is also “reassured” with the outcome of the tests. “Ludde has seen a specialist and no structural damage was found. That is good news,” said a pleased Kohfeldt on Sunday afternoon.

As a result of a bad reaction to heavy workload under the knee in his left leg, the left-back has been suffering light problems throughout the entire pre-season. Additionally, the Werder club hierarchy decided to allow Augustinsson to go through extensive medical tests and Kohfeldt expressed this as the reason for the Swede international’s early departure from Grassau.

Augustinsson will return to training on Monday but only to complete an individual session. “The reaction needs to calm down but the intension for him to start the first competitive matches of the season hasn’t been endangered,” said Kohfeldt, giving the all clear.

Sebastian Langkamp won’t feature in any of the remaining training sessions in Grassau to continue with his rehabilitation. A decision will be made at a later date regarding whether the centre-back will able to return to team training before or after Werder’s first competitive match of the new season, the DFB-Pokal first round clash against Atlas Delmenhorst.
