If you thought that Werder would be relaxing during the international break, you thought wrong. The Green-Whites take on VfL Osnabrück, who currently top the third division, on Friday 12 October at 18:30 CEST. “We look forward to a great atmosphere and good game,” said head coach Florian Kohfeldt.

VfL Osnabrück are having a strong season and currently sit top of the third division, with 22 points from 11 games. The side also have by far the best defence in the league. Goalkeeper Nils Körber has been called up to the Germany Under-21 side by coach Stefan Kuntz and will link up with Maximilian and Johannes Eggestein.

Florian Kohfeldt will use the friendly to give minutes to players who haven’t been playing as much recently. However, the game will come too early for Martin Harnik, who is still out injured. Kohfeldt revealed that “Nuri Sahin will play the full game tomorrow. For the others, we’ll have to see.”

Last time the two sides met, Werder ran out 3-0 winners. The Green-Whites were also victorious in the sides’ last competitive meeting, winning 4-1 in 1981.
