Florian Kohfeldt on the match: “The DFB-Pokal is an extremely important competition for us as a team,” explains the head coach during the official press conference. According to Kohfeldt, the fact that a fourth-division team await Werder in the second round is no reason to change anything about how the team go about preparing for the match. “We’ve been preparing for this match in exactly the same way we would for a Bundesliga match, with lots of video material,” says Kohfeldt. The coach is expecting the opponents to man-mark in midfield and to play “long balls which loop over the midfield”. He is hoping to see a clear improvement from his team after the last Bundesliga game. “I hope that we can play with confidence, that we’re awake and that we’re really keen to attack. Securing a safe win would be the right way to react,” says Kohfeldt.
Squad update: Head coach Florian Kohfeldt will not have Niklas Moisander and Philipp Bargfrede available for selection on Wednesday evening. The game against SC Weiche Flensburg 08 comes too early for both players. Apart from the long-term injuries, Moisander and Bargfrede, Florian Kohfeldt has the entire squad at his disposal. “They all lasted well in the game against Leverkusen and are fit for selection,” explained the head coach on Tuesday at the press conference.
