Hannover, Stuttgart, Mainz, Hoffenheim, Berlin, Wolfsburg, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Dortmund, Leverkusen and Hannover again. 13 teams have come to the Weserstadion trying to beat SV Werder Bremen and 13 teams have failed. The Green-Whites have become a force to be reckoned with on home turf. 1. FC Nürnberg make the trip to Bremen on Sunday, and will try to avoid becoming number 14. However, Werder head coach Florian Kohfeldt might have other ideas. Currently, Otto Rehhagel is the only Werder coach in Bundesliga history to go unbeaten in his first 14 home games. This record could be equalled on Sunday.

Previous meetings: You have to go back a few years to find the last time the two teams met – during the second half of the 2013/14 season. The game ended in a 2-0 away win for Werder, ending a run of five games without a win against Nürnberg. Franco Di Santo opened the scoring, with Philipp Bargfrede grabbing the second. It was a different story for Werder’s home game against FCN, however - the game ended 3-3.

Team news: There’s good and bad news for Werder. Jiri Pavlenka is fit again and available for the game: “He’ll definitely be able to play,” said Florian Kohfeldt. “The others, who haven’t had as long because of international call-ups, will also start training again,” added the boss. Sebastian Langkamp is the only absentee for the Green-Whites, missing the game with a thigh injury. “He won’t play this weekend. He’s expected to return to training in the middle of next week,” said Kohfeldt.

Kohfeldt on the game: Nürnberg are not your typical promoted team. “FCN have qualities that you wouldn’t expect from a promoted side,” said the Werder boss. “They’re a very strong team who play bravely and press their opponents early on. It’s a great approach.” Despite the praise, Werder still have to win the game. “With all due respect to FCN, we’re the better team and we have better individual players,” said Kohfeldt, explaining that Werder must “find a way to score and keep the ball well.”

At home vs. Nürnberg: Werder have a respectable record in this fixture. The Green-Whites have won 19 times in 31 games, with seven draws and five defeats. Werder have also scored in 17 of the last 18 meetings.

Two special moments: New signing Nuri Sahin could play a very important role against 1. FC Nürnberg, having played very well against them in the past. In 2005, Sahin scored his first ever Bundesliga goal in a 2-1 victory for Borussia Dortmund. The strike made him the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history, at just 17 years and 82 days old. The 30 year-old has also never lost to the Bavarian club, winning on seven occasions and drawing twice. Alongside Sahin, Martin Harnik also has good memories of FCN. Harnik scored his first Bundesliga goal against the club in a 1-0 win for Werder.

A blessing and a curse: Nürnberg’s attack has been successful in Bremen in the past. The club have scored 44 goals in the Weserstadion, more than at any other away ground. Matches between Werder and Nürnberg are usually high scoring affairs, with over 200 goals scored between the two clubs. FCN have struck 87 times against the Green-Whites at home. However, at the same time, FCN have conceded their second highest total number of goals in the Bundesliga to Werder (113). Nürnberg have conceded 74 of these goals in the Weserstadion.
