New record holder? It’s been the same story since October of last year: Bundesliga teams come to Bremen again and again to try and beat SV Werder. But no one has managed it since Florian Kohfeldt took the reins. The list has grown to 14 teams in that time and the unbeaten streak is also at 14 games. Only Otto Rehhagel has managed the feat before. If the Green-Whites manage to avoid defeat against Hertha, the Werder coach will be the new all-time record holder.
Record breaking start: Win against Nürnberg, win against Schalke, draw against Wolfsburg, win against Mönchengladbach. Hertha have made their best start to a Bundesliga season in the history of the club. ”They played brilliantly this weekend against Gladbach,” analyses Kohfeldt, who has been looking closely at their recent rise. “They’ve clearly come a long way since last season and they are a lot more versatile in their play,” says the Werder head coach. It hasn’t come as a surprise to Sebastian Langkamp, however, who was under contract at Hertha for four-and-a-half years. “Ever since Pal Dardai took over, they’ve been on a constant upward trajectory,” says Werder’s centre back. “They’ve developed exceptionally well. The quality is there and they can’t be underestimated, but you also can’t put too much stock in positions in the table at this point in the season.”
The home record: It makes for very good reading! When the Berlin club make the trip to the Weser, it’s normally the Werder fans who leave the happier. Out of 35 games played at the Weser-Stadion, SV Werder left the pitch as victors on 25 occasions. Four games ended in draws, while Hertha have won four times. The last home loss to Hertha BSC came all the way back in March 2006. Since then, it’s been eight wins and two draws for Werder at home. Hopefully, that exceptional run can continue this week.
