Usually when preparing for a game, the coaches use videos of the opposition team to try to work out how they might line up. Will they use man marking or zonal marking? Will they try to exploit the flanks or play through the middle? Ahead of the game against Hoffenheim tomorrow evening, Florian Kohfeldt did not have the answers.
“Hoffenheim have been very versatile this season. They’ve played every formation I know this season,” said Kohfeldt. Hoffenheim changed something during the summer break: “On the ball, they play more and more with a clear structure, with a lot of balls in the air, switching of play, and chips.”
Hoffenheim are hard to come up against in the Bundesliga, but they’re not unbeatable. Florian Kohfeldt has a plan for the game, but it might look a little different than usual. “We need to concentrate on the things that Hoffenheim could bring into their game, regardless of what’s unlikely because of the formation they’re playing,” said Kohfeldt. Werder have also shown this kind of unpredictability this season. Whether they go for a 4-3-3 like at the start of the season, or a 4-4-2 with a diamond in midfield, Werder have a lot of options.
The game kicks off at 20:30 CET at the Weserstadion tomorrow evening, where Werder will be looking to end the year at home with a win.
