For the third time already this season, an international break will put Bundesliga football on hold for a weekend. For head coach Florian Kohfeldt, the break has not exactly come at a bad time. A total of 13 Werder players took off for international duty after the game against Gladbach. Aside from a number of scheduled friendlies, many of Werder’s internationals will be fighting for some all-important points in the Nations League. WERDER.DE provides an overview of which Green-Whites play when and where.

First, in the Czech capital, Jiri Pavlenka and Theodor Gebre Selassie’s Czech Republic will face Slovakia in a Nations League showdown. To avoid relegation, Jiri and Theodor must avoid defeat. For Ludwig Augustinsson’s Sweden, two Nations League away games lie ahead. Milos Veljkovic with Serbia, Milot Rashica for Kosovo and Florian Kainz for Austria also face a Nations League double header this week.

Marco Friedl also has some deciding fixtures on his schedule with the Austria U21s, who are set to play in the qualifying playoffs for the European Championship. The two legs against Greece will decide who takes part at the tournament next year. Yuya Osako, on the other hand, has two Kirin Challenge Cup friendlies to look forward to with Japan.

While Maximilian Eggestein faces two friendlies against Netherlands and Italy with the Germany U21s, his brother Johannes will hope to be in action against England and Italy with the U20s. Josh Sargent will join the US national team for their friendlies in Europe, sparing the youngster a long flight across the Pond. The USA will play in England and then in Belgium against Italy.

Luca Plogmann and Manuel Mbom will travel to Israel with the Germany U19s for the Four-Nations-Torunament, where they will face Portugal, the Netherlands and hosts Armenia. Jan-Niklas Beste remains on call for the Germany U20s.
