SV Werder lost their training camp friendly against 1. FC Köln 1-0. Both sides had great chances in the first half, but goals proved to be elusive. After the break, Simon Terodde scored the game’s decisive goal in the 68th minute for the newly relegated club. It was the first defeat of the pre-season for the Green-Whites.
Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made few changes to the eleven who beat Duisberg last week. SVW lined up with three at the back; Niklas Moisander, Philipp Bargfrede and Theo Gebre Selassie. Thore Jacobsen and Florian Kainz occupied the wings, with Maxi Eggestein, Kevin Möhwald and Fridolin Wagner in central midfield. Ahead of them, the attacking duo of Max Kruse and Martin Harnik.
4’ – Almost the perfect start! Max Kruse plays Harnik through, but the striker’s shot is stopped by the legs of Köln keeper Timo Horn.
20’ – Recently relegated Köln have their first chance of the game. Louis Schaub runs through the defence and finds himself one on one with Jiri Pavlenka, but his strike passes wide of the left post.
68’ – Goal for Köln: Substitute Simon Terodde gets the breakthrough. After a glancing header from Guirassy, the striker runs at Plogmann and lobs the ball over the Werder keeper. Shortly before, Kainz had narrowly missed a direct free-kick.
77’ – So nearly the equaliser! Under pressure, Jannes passes back to his keeper, but he almost hits the ball straight past Horn into his own goal.
