Despite a strong performance away at Stuttgart, Werder lost the game 2-1. The Green-Whites went behind in the 19th minute of the game, when Anastasios Donis finished after being played through on goal. Things got worse for Werder in the 36th minute, when Milos Veljkovic was sent off for two bookings. The away side got an equaliser in the 68th minute through a bizarre own-goal from a throw-in, but Stuttgart went back in front only seven minutes later. Instead of topping the table, Werder succumbed to their first defeat of the season.

58 mins: How has the ball stayed out? Kruse, Osako and Maxi Eggestein combine before the latter hits the inside of the post with a driven effort. So unlucky!

68 mins: A BIZARRE GOAL! Sosa takes a throw-in for Stuttgart, and his goalkeeper doesn’t appear to be ready for the pass. Zieler tries to take a touch but can’t stop the ball from ending up in the back of the net! 1-1!
