Werder picked up three points for the first time in five games thanks to a great team performance against Düsseldorf. The Green-Whites started the game well, with Milot Rashica particularly lively, before Kevin Möhwald put his side in front on his first Bundesliga start (20’). There was a small setback just before the break, when Dodi Lukebakio equalised for Düsseldorf from the penalty spot after a handball from Sebastian Langkamp (43’). In the second half, it was the subs that changed the game. Martin Harnik came on and put Werder in front (71’). Josh Sargent then came on for his Bundesliga debut and scored with his first touch just two minutes later (78’).

Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made five changes from last week’s defeat against Bayern. With Milos Veljkovic and Niklas Moisander, Werder had a new centre-back pairing of Marco Friedl and Sebastian Langkamp. Kevin Möhwald came in for Nuri Sahin in midfield, while Milot Rashica and Claudio Pizarro started in place of Yuya Osako and Johannes Eggestein up front.

20 mins: GOOAALL for Werder – Kevin Möhwald on his first Bundesliga start! Rashica does well and gets the ball to Max Kruse. The captain then checks back onto his right foot before playing the ball to Möhwald on the edge of the box. The midfielder makes no mistake and blasts Werder into the lead!

43 mins: Lukebakio scores the penalty for the away side, sending Pavlenka the wrong way.

Three subs change the game

71 mins: GGOOOAAALL for Werder! Martin Harnik scores! Johannes Eggestein adjusts well and hits a fierce volley which the Düsseldorf keeper can only parry into the path of Martin Harnik. The striker does the rest and fires Werder back into the lead!

78 mins: GOOOOOAAALLL – Josh Sargent with his first touch! The 18-year-old only came on two minutes ago but taps in the rebound after Martin Harnik does well from Klaassen’s cross!

79 mins: Werder almost concede straight from the restart, but Lukebakio’s shot is saved by Pavlenka.

90+4 mins: Full time at the Weserstadion!

Match summary: Werder seemed really up for the game right from the start and deserved to go into the lead in the first half. The setback just before the half-time whistle didn’t stop the Green-Whites, and it was Kohfeldt’s second-half substitutes that won the game!
