47 mins: Goal for Augsburg – the hosts equalise through Philipp Max. Hahn is allowed to run at the Werder defence and Max in unmarked at the back post to volley home.
54 mins: Chance for Pizarro! Kainz crosses wonderfully from the left but the veteran striker puts his header just wide of the post.
75 mins: GOOOOAAALLLLL! Klaassen puts Werder in front! Kruse puts a low ball across the six-yard box which Giefer should just scoop up under no pressure. However, the ball somehow finds its way through the ‘keeper’s legs and Klaassen taps home at the back post!
88 mins: Almost another equaliser for Augsburg, but Max’s header hits the post.
90+5 mins: The final whistle goes! Werder avoid stoppage-time heartbreak and bag the three points!
Match summary: Werder were on the back foot for much of the game but managed to come away with the win. Max Kruse got his first goal of the season and was the catalyst for almost every Werder attack. The Green-Whites went two up before the break thanks to Eggestein’s rocket, but conceded to let the home side back in the game. Augsburg were back on top after equalising at the start of the second period, but it was Werder who found the winner thanks to a goalkeeping mistake and a Klaassen finish 15 minutes from time.
