There were big celebrations before the game against Augsburg in the Weserstadion this afternoon, and they continued long after. Thanks to a strong first-half performance, Werder beat Augsburg 4-0, their biggest victory of the season so far. Milot Rashica gave Werder an early lead with a fine finish (5’). Johannes Eggestein then added a second with a well-struck volley (27’) before Rashica scored an impressive solo goal just a minute later (28’). Substitute Kevin Möhwald added a fourth towards the end of the game with a finish right into the corner (83’).

Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made just one change from the team that starting the victory against Dortmund during the week, with Johannes Eggestein coming in for Nuri Sahin. Martin Harnik missed the game through injury, so Josh Sargent came back into the squad. Werder lined up in a 4-3-3 formation.

Straight out the blocks!

5 mins: GOAL for Werder – Milot Rashica! Werder’s pressing forces Augsburg to play a long ball and the Green-Whites win it back. Max Kruse then shows a fine bit of skill to back-heel the ball to Davy Klaassen, who plays Milot Rashica through on goal. The Kosovan leaves the goalkeeper with no chance, firing into the corner!

12 mins: Gebre Selassie goes close with a header from a free-kick but the goalkeeper saves.

27 mins: GOAL for Werder – Jojo Eggestein! An Augustinsson free-kick again causes problems, and Jojo is there to fire home a volley!

28 mins: WHAT A GOAL! Milot Rashica has his second of the game! He picks up the ball on the left wing and drives forward into the box. Once there, he cuts back onto his favoured right foot and curls home beyond the goalkeeper!

40 mins: Gregoritsch is played through on goal and Pavlenka somehow denies him!

45+1 mins: Half-time in the Weserstadion. What a first-half performance from the Green-Whites!
