Florian Kohfeldt is looking forward to this weekend. He has a large group of players to choose from, but can only select 18 for the Werder’s second home game of the season. Both in defence and attack, the competition for places is already extremely intense.
Jiri Pavlenka is available after returning from injury, Nuri Sahin adds another option in midfield, and Milot Rashica is pushing for a start after his goal against Frankfurt. Having so much choice is a “nice luxury” said Werder head coach Florian Kohfeldt. He also gave an update on team news: “Depending on how the final two training sessions go, Pavlas could be back in goal. The players who have returned from international duty will also start training again.”
New signing Nuri Sahin is also in contention to start for the first time. The midfielder played 164 minutes in Werder’s two friendly games last week. “Nuri could definitely start, but I’ve got 17 or 18 other players that I work with everyday to consider,” said Kohfeldt.
The boss also commented on his tactics for this weekend’s game: “We’ll need different types of players against Nürnberg and I’ll decide who the best options will be to play specifically against them. With the large squad, we have the opportunity to play our in-form players and change things accordingly.”
