Niklas Moisander is to remain a Werder player and will extend his contract at the club. Sporting director Frank Baumann confirmed the news on Friday morning. The central defender will put pen to paper on a new deal over the coming days.
“Niklas is an important part of our plans for the years to come. He has already proved his leadership qualities on and off the pitch over the last two seasons. We’re really happy to have reached an agreement with him,” explains Baumann.
Florian Kohfeldt is also quick to praise the qualities of his number 18: “Niklas is a real leader within the team. He not only leads by example on the pitch with his intelligence and footballing quality, but he also epitomizes what it means to represent Werder off the pitch as well. His experience will be a stabilizing and important element of our defence in the years to come.”
Niklas Moisander is equally happy about extending his contract: “We have started going down a very successful path over the last few weeks. You can really sense that the team and the club as a whole is on the up. My family and I also feel very comfortable at Werder and within the city. I look forward to being a part of the club’s history for a few more years yet.”
Niklas Moisander moved to the Weser in 2016 from Sampdoria. He has played in a total of 55 games in the Bundesliga for the Green-Whites to date and scored one goal.
