The defeat against FC Bayern was less than 24 hours ago but the analysis of the game has already started. “We needed to play with more courage in the second half,” said Vice-captain Niklas Moisander on Sunday afternoon. “We had too much respect for Bayern in certain periods of the game. That is a very dangerous approach to take against such a good team,” said the Finnish defender.
SVW have only gained one point in the past five games. “We do not have the same levels of confidence that we had at the beginning of the season,” the defender explained. “We are not as courageous in our attacking play in comparison to earlier in the campaign. We need to remember that we are still a good team.”
“We do not seem to be able to stay fully focussed for the full 90 minutes. We need to concentrate better and anticipate better in defence to try and stop conceding so many goals,” said the defender. “Key players, me included, need to play at 100% every match to win games. This is a minimum requirement.”
Werder face Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Weser-Stadion on Friday in their next game. “If we want to play European football next season we have to beat Düsseldorf,” explained Moisander. Unfortunately the defender cannot help his team on Friday as he will have to serve his one-match suspension. Moisander was shown a second yellow card in added time for a foul on Robert Lewandowski and will miss out the crucial game on Friday.
