Not many Werder fans will want to remember the last time Sebastian Langkamp and Marco Friedl played together for the Green-Whites. The final score in that match in the Weser-Stadion was a 6-2 defeat to Leverkusen. After eight largely impressive matches to start the season, Florian Kohfeldt’s side were punished for individual errors.

Sebastian Langkamp and Marco Friedl are likely to start for the Green-Whites on Friday night in their home clash with Fortuna Düsseldorf (20:30 CET). On this occasion, they hope the match will play out in their favour.

“We both want to redeem ourselves,” said Langkamp as he opened Werder’s pre-match press conference. The defeat to Leverkusen still brings back painful memories for the 30-year-old. “Us” also refers to Marco Friedl, who also looked shaky in the game against the Werkself. However, this match has been put behind them and Langkamp is fully focused on the clash with Düsseldorf. “We want to play better, including in our communication on the pitch,” says Langkamp.

The defender believes the team are feeling good after a good week of training. “We have played together before and I don’t need to speak to Marco much before the match,” he insists. “We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses.” Langkamp wants to use these strengths in the match on Friday night. How Werder go about the task at hand is up to head coach Florian Kohfeldt and the eleven Werder players on the pitch. For Sebastian Langkamp, it is all about “reducing the weaknesses and playing to my strengths.”
