2018. A successful year for many Werder players. Successful runs in both halves of the year, goals on debuts, World Cup debuts, comebacks and lots of noteworthy memories. In our review of 2018, WERDER.de have asked some Werder players to name their favourite moment of the year, something that perhaps will stay with them for the rest of their careers. Part IV of our series takes a look back at the World Cup with Ludwig Augustinsson.
“Being able to wear my country’s colours at the World Cup and then scoring my first international goal against Mexico was obviously special for me. It was the opener. I still get a warm feeling inside when I think about it. The World Cup as a whole is full of positive memories.”
“It was the biggest moment of my career so far, so it has to be my moment of 2018. I think a lot of people in Sweden were watching the game and can still remember what happened. Being at the World Cup isn’t something to be taken for granted back home, so getting out the group is something extra special. The 3-0 win secured our place in the last 16 and I’m so happy to be a part of that story.”
“I have to say, it was something of perfect timing. I don’t score many goals, but they tend to be important ones. I hope that there will be a few more to come in my career, for Werder as well.”

“The first few weeks after the World Cup were pretty crazy for me. When I was just walking through the city, I was being stopped every five or ten minutes by someone asking for an autograph or a photo. It had never been like that before.”
