Pizarro, the second oldest Bundesliga goalscorer: At exactly 40 years and 25 days old, Claudio Pizarro is now steadily approaching a Bundesliga record. His goal against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, which was scored in his classic, composed manner, momentarily reduced Werder's deficit. As a result, the Peruvian did not only score his first goal since returning to the club in summer, but also moved up to second in the list of oldest Bundesliga scorers. He has now surpassed Manfred Burgsmüller (39 years, 226 days), who caused a storm while playing for Werder in the late 1980s. The oldest player to have scored in the Bundesliga is, of course, also a well-known Werder player. Mirko Votava scored his last goal at 40 years and 121 days old and warned head coach Florian Kohfeldt that he should not give Claudio Pizarro the opportunity to take his title. Should Pizarro score a goal at any time from Matchday 20 onwards, he would then be named the oldest goalscorer. Kohfeldt replied to Votava's wish saying, “Sorry Marko, that won't happen.”
