Go Davy, Go: Energy, creativity and an asset to the team – Davy Klaassen put in an impressive performance in our home game against Hannover 96 at the weekend. The Netherlands international’s accurate passing also started several attacks for Werder. His back heel flick in the first half alone showed what quality Klaassen brings to the team. Werder’s new No. 30 also covered eight miles during the game – the most of any player on the pitch.

A long wait: Werder fans had to wait a long time for a goal on the first Bundesliga matchday. Werder hadn’t scored in their first game since 2014/15 before Theodor Gebre Selassie made it 1-1 against Hannover.

Ambition and courage: The goal for the season is to qualify for Europe. Werder chairman Marco Bode confirmed this target at the weekend, stating: “we have ambitious goals, but I think we can achieve them if we take it step by step.” Bode also praised Florian Kohfeldt: “he brings a lot of what you need from a coach. He treats the players as equals.”
