Improvements to be made: Following the game against Nürnberg on Sunday, Max Kruse sat down to answer questions from the press. “It’s really annoying because we were almost begging for them to equalise yesterday. We’ve not lost a game, which we shouldn’t forget, but we’re still not on track for our goal,” said the Werder captain. Kruse didn’t just discuss the team performance, he also commented on his own: “I haven’t scored or assisted yet and that’s not okay for me. The success of the team is always important, but I have to improve.” Florian Kohfeldt told Kruse to stay more central yesterday: “I always want to have the ball, so I move out of the middle too often. With Davy and Nuri now for example, we have players who can do that well, so I need to get used to it.” Werder have a chance to put things right against FC Augsburg on Saturday.

An engine in midfield: Davy Klaassen has covered the most distance out of any Werder player in all three Bundesliga games so far, covering over 21 miles altogether. “Davy is an massively important player for us. He always works hard for the team and knows what we need,” said Frank Baumann. Klaassen is one of six Werder players to not miss a minute so far this season, alongside Ludwig Augustinsson, Theodor Gebre Selassie, Milos Veljkovic, Niklas Moisander and Maxi Eggestein.

A record equalled: Despite the disappointment surrounding the result against Nürnberg, there were still positives for Werder. The Green-Whites are still unbeaten under Florian Kohfeldt in the Weserstadion. Going 14 Bundesliga home games unbeaten means that Kohfeldt has equalled the record of Werder legend Otto Rehhagel.
