Super sub: There were just 143 seconds between Johannes Eggestein coming on as a sub and scoring his first Bundesliga goal on Friday evening. “It was a great feeling,” said the 20-year-old after the game. The young striker also got a lot of praise from his teammates following the goal, with Theodor Gebre Selassie posting on Instagram “Sooner or later, you get your reward. Congratulations Jojo.” It took Johannes 11 Bundesliga appearances to get his first Bundesliga goal, whilst his brother Maxi got his first in his 18th league game.

First clean sheet: Werder have been strong in defence this season, but they had yet to go 90 minutes without conceding after six Bundesliga games. This changed at the weekend, when Jiri Pavlenka finally got his first clean sheet against Wolfsburg. The central defensive pairing of Niklas Moisander and Sebastian Langkamp were also vital in the shutout, with the former getting into Kicker’s Team of the Week. Langkamp had a strong first appearance of the season, winning 100% of his tackles and completing 83% of his passes.

Mr. Dependable: If the Werder coaches of recent years are in agreement about one thing, it’s that Philipp Bargfrede plays if he’s fit. In recent weeks, the defensive midfielder has shown why. Against Wolfsburg, Bargfrede won the most tackles on the pitch (16), completed the most passes (49) and had the most touches of the ball (75).
