“Pavlas kept emphasising in recent weeks just how happy he feels at Werder and that he would very much like to continue wearing a Werder jersey,” told sporting director Frank Baumann. “We’re pleased that he’s following through with these statements so emphatically by signing a contract extension.”

For head coach Florian Kohfeldt, the extension represents an acknowledgement on both sides to continue the wonderful relationship between Pavlenka and Werder for the next few years. “We’re very pleased with Pavlas’ development in his first season as a Bundesliga goalkeeper. At the same time he’s developing his character and becoming an important part of our team on the pitch,” said Kohfeldt. Goalkeeper coach Christian Vander added: “Pavlas developed massively last season. From day one he was eager to learn and wanted to improve. It’s really good fun working with him, therefore, I’m pleased that he’s committed his future to Werder.”

 “I’ve felt very comfortable at the club and in the team from the beginning,” emphasised Pavlenka. “It means a lot to me that those in charge at the club, as well as the fans, have honoured my good performances. As a result, it’s very important to me that I can carry on performing at this level in the future.”

The Czech international came to Werder last summer from Slavia Prague, and has played every minute of every competitive fixture. Thanks to his saves, Werder only conceded 40 goals in the Bundesliga last season, the lowest total in eight years. Pavlenka also kept eight clean sheets.
