WERDER.DE: You seem positive about the upcoming season. What can the fans expect?
Ludwig Augustinsson: “I think that we can achieve a lot more than last season. I said it from the beginning that my goal is to play in Europe with Werder. The new season will be difficult for sure, but I think we have a good team. If we all work hard, we can achieve great success. Playing in Europe is a dream that is quite optimistic. However, I think that we can make a charge up the table.”
WERDER.DE: When did you begin to consider pursuing a contract extension? With the signing of Davy Klaassen and the return of both Claudio Pizarro and Martin Harnik, did you realise that something was happening at the club?
Ludwig Augustinsson: “I thought about it for the first time during a meeting a couple of months ago, where we discussed the idea. After the World Cup, we had another chat about it. Naturally you become keener when you see players of such quality arriving at the club. I think we’ve got a stronger squad than last season, even though Thomas Delaney, Zlatko Junuzovic and Ishak Belfodil are great players. I’m really happy in any case and think we have great strength in depth. The club’s leadership can look back on a successful transfer window (laughs).”
