In the four previous meetings between RB Leipzig and Werder, there have been at least two goals in every match. Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt believes this run could continue as two offensively powerful teams meet on Saturday (15:30 CET).

The two teams have scored 54 goals between them in the sixteen Bundesliga matches so far this season, an average of more than three per match. The requirements for an entertaining match between two attacking sides, just like Werder’s 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim on Wednesday night.

“Leipzig play extremely attacking and physical football and offer their opposition the chance to counter a couple of times,” analysed Werder head coach Florian Kohfeldt. However, relying on counter attack is not the 36 year-old’s matchplan. “We showed on Wednesday that we have an idea of how we can defend against physical teams and how we can attack. Against Leipzig, we have to withstand their attacking power and then we will create chances ourselves to score. I am sure of that.”

The Leipzig match won’t be a benchmark for how successful the first half of the season for the Green-Whites. However, it is still an important match that could have implications for Werder’s European aspirations. “It’s about putting ourselves in a strong position for the second half of the season. We still have everything to play for. Every point helps. We have to focus on rewarding ourselves and securing points is the most important thing in the Bundesliga,” admits Kohfeldt ahead of the final match of 2018 in Saxony on Saturday (15:30 CET).

This is the Green-Whites last chance to secure three points this calendar year and before the Bundesliga winter break. This would be the ideal Christmas present for all Werder fans!
