The record against FC Bayern München doesn’t fall in favour of the Green-Whites. Werder’s last victory against the record Bundesliga champions ten years ago. However, Werder have reason to be hopeful of taking a good result against the Bavarians at the Weser-Stadion on Saturday and certainly have a chance to win the match.

“I am only thinking of our second match against Bayern last season, where we had a great chance to win in Munich,” remembers Werder head coach Florian Kohfeldt. The 36 year old also knows how difficult it can be for teams to take something after 90 minutes against the record champions. “It is never easy to play Bayern, it isn’t impossible to win.”

In terms of Saturday’s match plan, Kohfeldt believes his team are ready to take on Lewandowski, Müller and Co. He also gives a further insight into his tactics: “The counter attack could play an important role in our style of play on Saturday. However, as always, we want to play our brand of football with bold combination play and maintain the high tempo in the final third to cause our opponents problems. Several Bundesliga teams have successfully deployed this strategy to break Bayern down in recent times. “We will certainly get the space to counter against our opponents on Saturday. It is also important for us to keep possession of the ball and to actively try to win the ball back,” suggests Kohfeldt for a winning recipe against FC Bayern.

Regarding his squad, Werder’s coach says they need to have “high aspirations, courage and make independent runs. In every moment, the team needs to be ready to take the ball and defend at the right time. They also need to concentrate in the one-on-one situations,” to deal with Bayern’s individual and collective attacking threat.

Everyone connected to Werder is looking forward to the match on Saturday. “We are all fired up for the match and want to secure points,”said Maximilian Eggestein looking ahead to the home clash with FC Bayern. If the Green-Whites are able to secure victory on Saturday, then they would draw level on points with Niko Kovac’s side in the Bundesliga table.
