“We’re very pleased with Marco’s development and we’d already made it clear that we wanted to carry on working with him. We had positive talks with both Marco and FC Bayern. We’re glad that it’s worked out that Marco will stay at Werder long-term,” said Frank Baumann.
Florian Kohfeldt was also pleased with the outcome of the talks: “I’ve always said that Marco is worth a lot to us and can play an important role in our defence in the future. He’s shown that again and again this season and I’m pleased that he wants to continue his development with us.”
“I’ve felt very settled at Werder right from the first moment. You can sense that we’ve developed here, especially over the past few months. I’m looking forward to being part of that development in the future,” said Friedl. The defender also looked back to his time at Bayern: “I got a very good education there and had a very good time. I’ll always like going back to Munich.”
Marco Friedl signed for Werder on loan in January 2018. He’s played 15 games for the Green-Whites so far, with two appearances in the DFB-Pokal. The defender also has 14 caps for Austria Under-21s, scoring one goal.
