On whether such praise could be dangerous after a defeat, Kohfeldt said: “Definitely not. We were all bitterly disappointed and annoyed after the game. We gave the game away through two mistakes. We’re not resting up. I feel like everyone at the club knows what we need to do now and we’ll put in the performance that’s expected of us on Friday night.”
In the press conference this afternoon, Werder’s Director of Sport Frank Baumann denied that the club had something to put right after the Stuttgart loss. Instead, he saw an “impressive response from the team. The players wanted to take at least a point from the game until the last second. We can see the will to succeed in every player.”
However, Baumann knows that Werder can’t play perfectly every game: “We’ll have off days from time to time throughout the season, and it’s normal. We play in the Bundesliga. The reality is that almost every game will be close, but the team will get through them with our aims in mind.”
Werder’s next task is to beat Wolfsburg at home tomorrow evening. “We want to really be on it on Friday night,” said Kohfeldt on the game. “The defeat has had no effect on our preparation for the game. We took the positives from the Stuttgart game and included them in our training sessions, and we’re constantly working on the negatives. If we play like we did against Stuttgart, we have to get something from the game.” That’s exactly what Werder will try to do tomorrow, when the Wolves visit the Weserstadion.
