Despite going 1-0 down to Freiburg in the first half, Werder managed to fight back and score an injury-time equaliser to get a point. “We had several really good chances in the game, but didn’t take them,” said caption Max Kruse after the game.

On the game:

Max Kruse: “It was an even game. We deserved it in the end because we kept believing in ourselves, but we’re not happy with the point. We had several really good chances that we had to take.”

Niklas Moisander: “Both sides had good chances. We maybe had a few more leading up to when we scored. I think that 1-1 is fair.”

Jiri Pavlenka: “In my eyes, we created a lot of chances against a strong Freiburg side. The game could have finished 3-3. It’s an important point for us, because it’s hard after three defeats in a row. People might have doubted us but we showed our morale today. The first system we played didn’t work out and we expected Freiburg to line up differently, but we’re able to change and play different systems.”

Johannes Eggestein: “It’s really hard to play here. It’s a tight pitch and Freiburg know it well. I think we got a surprising number of chances. We changed the system a few times and we can always keep it fresh. We should have scored earlier, no question.”

On Jiri Pavlenka’s performance:

Niklas Moisander: “He played really, really well. It’s only because of him that we were able to equalise.”

Ludwig Augustinsson: “He was our superman. We had to go for it at the end because we didn’t want to go home empty-handed. It was great that he was so strong during this period.”

Davy Klaassen: “He pulled off a few great saves today – especially in the second half.”

Max Kruse: “He was solid at the back last season and he is again this year. We’re glad that he’s got our backs. It could have been 2-0 or 3-0 without him today.”

On the Bayern game:

Max Kruse: “We’ve stopped our losing run and we’re still on course, three points behind Bayern, who we play next. We’re not concerned with Bayern Munich and how they’ve played. We look at ourselves. No matter what form they’re in when they play you, you always need a great performance to go toe-to-toe with them. That’s what we want to do on Saturday.”
