Goalkeepers Jaroslav Drobny and Michael Zetterer are set to stay at Werder for a further season. Both players have extended their contracts to see them stay in green and white for the 2018/19 season.

“We’re really glad that Drobo will be with is for the coming season. With all his experience he is an extremely important figure in training for the rest of our younger keepers. In case of any emergencies he will also be available to play for us in the Bundesliga if needed,” says sporting director, Frank Baumann.

The 2018/19 season will be Drobny’s 21st as a professional player, and he’s looking forward to it just as much as he always does. “I feel very at home in Bremen and as a part of this team and I still am having a lot of fun playing football. I hope to continue helping the younger players by passing on my experience to them,” explains Drobny.

While Drobny is already taking part in Werder’s preseason schedule, Michael Zetterer is still recovering from a fracture in his hand. “We’re in constant communication with Michael Zetterer and with this contract extension we want to give him the opportunity to get back to the level of performance that we know he can reach,” says Frank Baumann.

“For me it’s firstly about getting back to full fitness. My goal is to play in the Bundesliga and I’m going to work really hard to do that! I’m very thankful to Werder for giving me the necessary time to get back to fitness and find my old form,” says Michael Zetterer.

Jaroslav Drobny moved to the Weser from Hamburger SV in the summer of 2016 and has played ten games for the Green-Whites since then. Drobny has a total of 300 top flight games under his belt. Michael Zetterer moved to Werder from SpVgg Unterhaching in 2015 and has played 23 times for the U23s in the third division.
