Werder have been drawn away to FC Schalke 04 in the quarter-final of the DFB Pokal. The game will take place on either the 2nd or 3rd of April 2019.
The Green-Whites beat Wormatia Worms 6-1 (5-1) in the first round of the competition, followed by a 5-1 (3-1) win against Weiche Flensburg. Werder then pulled off a shock win away to Dortmund this week, beating the league-leaders on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
Reaction to the draw:
Florian Kohfeldt: “We’re expecting a very, very difficult game, but we have the opportunity to beat Schalke. Both teams will throw everything at it, it will be an intense game.”
Frank Baumann: “It’s not an easy task to play in Schalke. We’re expecting an exciting challenge, but it helps that we’ve already won there this season and that we beat Dortmund on Tuesday. We know that we’ll need a really good performance there. It will definitely be a nice evening of football, and we’re looking forward to it.”
Philipp Bargfrede: “We were hoping for a home game, of course. But if we won in Dortmund, we can win at Schalke.”
Jiri Pavlenka: “If we want to get to the final, we have to beat everyone. It doesn’t matter where or who against.”
Theodor Gebre Selassie: “Everyone saw on Tuesday that we can win away against strong opponents. We want to get into the semi-final and will give everything to do that.”
Niklas Moisander: “It’s a great draw, even if we wanted to play at home. It’ll definitely be a great game and there will be a lot of Werder fans there, who’ll back us into the next round with their support.”
