While the Green-Whites took on Meppen and Emmen in two friendlies during the last international break, Beijmo only received 22 minutes of game time with the Sweden U21s. For all respective parties, this isn’t ideal. “During the next international break, we will discuss the next step with Felix and the Swedish football association. It would be good for him to feature in a potential Werder friendly,” says Baumann, who also doesn’t rule out the full-back featuring for Werder U23s.
Josh Sargent is an example of someone who has featured for Werder’s second team in the Regionalliga and then broken into the first team. The youth talent was involved in discussions with the USA’s football association in September regarding a potential place in the national team. He has since received a call up for the USA senior squad for their upcoming friendlies against Columbia (Tuesday, 11th October 2018) and Peru (Wednesday, 17th October 2018). “Josh will travel to feature for the US national team. He should get a lot of experience from his time with the squad, which is very important for younger players. He has received a lot of game time here and we are very pleased with the progress he is making,” said Baumann. Sargent’s departure for international duty could open up a place in Werder U23s squad for Beijimo to make a similar impact.
